Nikon FM

Nikon's first compact reflex SLR, the FM, went into production in May 1977. It is the predecessor of the FM2, FM2n, FM2 Titan and FM3A. Its compactness and fine design have kept the FM series of camera bodies in production into the 21st Century, when the FM3A was introduced as Nikon's new top-of-the-line manual focus SLR.

The FM has a weight of 14.8 ounces, a flash sync. speed of 1/125th second and can be coupled with the popular MD-11 and MD-12 motor drives. ASA/ISO range is 12 to 3200 and shutter speed range is from 1 to 1/100th second, plus B, of course. The FM also has a multiple exposure switch, self-timer and fixed hot-shoe. It was produced in both chrome and black bodies. A special gold model was produced for Nikon's 60th anniversary.

The original FM had a knurled collar around the shutter release and a knurled film rewind knob. These features were smoothed out with the later FM Model II (pictured above).

It's a great little camera, but not enough heft for my taste. It seems well built and solid for its size.
